WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL |
Sitiveni Chand from Fiji could afford dropped points in his final ride as he won this Semi Final comfortably to qualify for the World Under 21 Final. Behind him Archie Sanders and Ray France recovered from slow starts to qualify as expected while Petr Marko also cruised through as most thought he would. Jerzy Wieczorek from Poland impressed in totalling 9 points and Henrijs Birkerts and Tommy Davey scored just one less and will ride in the final. It looked like an upset may have been on the cards when Louis Joossens had an engine failure in his last heat but he recovered quickly to win a run-off and reach the last 16. No huge shocks although may would have expected Golden to go through and perhaps hoped to see more from Kasaka, who both lost out in the run-off against Joossens. The hard luck story of the day was for Sampson who scored 6 points from his 3 completed rides but had bike problems and then a fall in his others to miss out on a shot at qualification by just a single point. |

WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL |
Eddie Mendoza and Craig Leonard were the hotly tipped riders in this one and they qualified without a hitch, in 1st and 2nd respectively. Another rider who is fancied to challenge for the title is Marco Bellini who was steady throughout to also progress. There were a few surprise performances though as Keijo Pahlman recovered from a pointless first ride to finish 3rd overall and qualify and Frankie Young, Leo Olsson and Emil Westerberg also progressed ahead of riders that the bookies expected to do better. The final qualifier was Gennady Baranov, the young Belarusian doing enough to take a final spot as he scored in each of his races. There were two surprises against the pre-meeting odds with the non-qualification of both Riisik and Turati, the former unlucky with a couple of falls without which he would almost certainly have gone through and Turati just not doing enough in the middle of the meeting to make it. |
