WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL

Russia were deserving winners of this meeting as they powered into the World Pairs Final with both riders scoring paid 15.  England were well lead by Hayden Wood and Steve Edgard improved as the meeting went on to see them progress without too many worries.  Norway hosted this Semi Final and their manager turned in a shrewd display to see them finish 3rd; firstly he used Ove Dalasen as a reserve in their last heat and he produced a win to see them into a run-off.  The Norwegian boss then had the belief in Carsten Ostenstad to send him out in the decider for the final automatic place in the final and he rode a fantastic race to see them through.  Scotland were the unlucky side in the run-off but when the results of both Semis were in the 3 bonus points Luke Treadwell and Andrew Williamson had picked up proved decisive and they progressed to the World Pairs Final as the highest scoring 4th placed side.

Sweden were disappointed to miss out, Sven Svensson started well and it looked like they had overcome a first heat exclusion for Eric Bjork but then they took just 2 points from their final heats against Russia and England and fell a point short of the all important run-off to decide the qualifying spots.  For Brazil Paulo Camargo did well and they are definitely a rapdily improving nation but this was a step too far for them.  After qualifying from the Quarter Finals on home shale Canada couldn't challenge here although, to be fair, but for an exclusion and a couple of engine failures they made have been able to get themselves in the mix.

WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL

Poland were at home in this Semi Final and dropped just 2 points as Maciej Tercjak and Boguslaw Kryznowek blew the opposition away; although the final won't be in Poland it would take a brave person to bet against them taking the title on this display.  The final will be held in the Czech Republic and they finished 2nd in this meeting, with Tibor Nemecek absolutely flying, so if home advantage can help them find the right support for their top man maybe they could be amongst the challengers for the big day in 6 weeks' time?  The other team to reach the last 7 were Denmark for whom Steen Eriksen recorded double figures and Jens Isaksen, coming in as a reserve in the second half of the meeting, provided strong enough support to see them over the line.

New Zealand finished 4th and tied on points with the side finishing 4th, Scotland, in the other Semi Final.  In such cases positions are decided by the number of bonus points scored and the Anzacs paid the price for relying too heavily on Fillippe Chong (12 points) against the better all-round partership of the Scots.  Sepp Manzbach for Germany and Ila Niemi for Finland both recorded double figure returns but were other nations to miss out as a result of not giving enough support to their top star on the day.  Australia propped up the field with a couple of impressive rides from reserve Tyler Tebby their highlight but they never looked like going through as they couldn't compete with the top riders on the day.
